This has been described as the greatest modern vintage from Nieeport and we wouldn't disagree. Wet earth and crushed berries are what you can expect. Has just come into it's own but will certainly stand laying down for a while. At under £25 the Petres represents really remarkable value.

Despite a lack of familiarity in this country the Niepoorts have carved out a reputation for being probably Port's highest quality wine maker. The Winery has passed from Father to son in succesion since 1842, with each generation spending significant time working with the previous to ensure continuity and authenticity. The same familial links are also true of the master winemakers with Jose Nogueria the current incumbent with both his Father and son employed by the house.  View more info about Niepoort More info
Tasting Notes
The ever marvelous Niepoort had a really great year in 1997 as is showcased by this absolutely stunning, almost black in colour vintage port. All the, almost macho, flavours you would expect are evident, yet with a real depth, complexity and subtlety. Characterisitics that are often sorely lacking in the modern age of port wine making.
