Barolo, Erbaluna

Huge in flavour and almost black in colour this really is amazing stuff. Coffe and bramble jelly seem to come at you from all directions. Incredible long finish that will will almost knock you off your chair. Really needs decanting.

Producer introduction
The Pizzolato's have been producing wine for five generations. They have been organic since 1991 but it’s only recently that there have been big strides forward in quality and the wines are now really spot on. With 50 hectares of their own and contracts for grapes from another 50 belonging to long-term local organic growers, they are a significant operation which looks to get better and better.

Tasting Notes
I’ve never made it to Piemonte in summer. It’s always been shrouded in wintery fog when I’ve been and the stunning village of La Morra has always seemed slightly unreal. This is added to by the extraordinary role-call of famous Barolo growers who live here. Severino Oberto should certainly be counted amongst these and makes fine Barolos with a succulence that marries well to the natural bitterness of the Nebbiolo.
